In the darkness your senses fire up. Darkness will be the key to Evangeline, what is not seen as much as what is seen. This feel is evident at MONA where I was struck by the fact that the walkways and spaces were mostly dark, instead of the ridiculous ‘I’m at the dentist’ brightness of most galleries, where I inevitably stare more at what my fellow gallery goers are wearing more than I stare at the art. MONA plunges you into night with all its intrigues and mysteries. I couldn’t even tell you who was standing alongside me at what piece and I didn’t give a toss. I just wanted to find the next piece of art, to uncover the next secret.
